Summer Trees painted with a palette knife

About This Painting: As a daily painter I am often asked how can I paint a painting each day. My mind just goes and I have too many ideas to be able to get them all done in a day. So the small daily studies help me to focus in a direction that I want to move in.

I have been paint some very large palette knife paintings lately. This is a smaller version of some of the very large paintings I am doing. I will have several large palette knife paintings available at my next show Art on the Rocks

In Marquette Michigan. Above are a few palette knifes that I use when I work this way. It really helps me to loosen up and paint with my whole body not just my hand.

About This Painting: Summer is great for picking flowers for still life . Today I used some pink ones in a cup. I have taken this cup to the studio for still life work because it is way to small for my morning coffee and it was just taking up space in the kitchen cupboard. I have other small paintings of flowers in a pot. It is always interesting trying to find a new way to set up a still life. I just put the flowers in the cup and pulled them around until I liked the look. I put my lighting overhead but just didn't seem to generate to much drama with it so I added interest with brushwork and kept the color palette limited.

Often we encounter a scene when either en plein air painting, or from a photo that has potential to be a nice painting. But it needs to be cleaned up a bit, maybe a seasonal change, information deleted or added, cropping, etc.. This photo is just that kind of challenge. About This Painting: My husband love these Michigan sweet cherries so when I was at the store today I bought some peaches to paint in still life and he picked up a bag of sweet cherries. I was playing with them making a little Conga line when I decided they were to good to pass up. So I rescued a few from my husbands snack and I painted them.

Primary Colors

You all have them, they’re right in front of you, though you might not have ever thought to paint them: your art supplies!

This was the challenge this week on Daily Paint Works to paint them. Brushes, paint tubes, pastel sticks, paint cans, er cherries, etc. - paint what you like.

I have been so busy in my studio for the past few weeks getting ready for my next art show Art on the Rocks. in Marquette Michigan. I haven't been doing to many art shows lately because I prefer galleries and on line marketing but if you have ever been to Marquette Michigan it is worth doing the show just to be by Lake Superior. I hope to do some paintings while I am there and take lots of pictures.

About This Painting: You would think all I drink is tea with all the paintings I do of tea bags, but I do love my coffee. I like fresh ground. When the studio cats get me up in the morning I head for the kitchen to brew up a fresh cup. I think it is about half coffee and half cream, oh so yummy in my tummy.
