Wild Raspberries No 2
Every time I went out to work in the garden today it would start to thunder black clouds would come in and the rain would drown me. I would run for the house, start a new project and in about half an hour the sun would come out. I repeated this madness three times and gave up when it started hailing the last time.I figured after all that exercise of running for cover it was time to relax in the studio and get down to some serious painting. I started the large pasture cow painting that I had been doing work up studies on today but I warmed up with small wild raspberry painting to get the creative juices flowing.

Florida Coast oil painting
I was looking for something interesting to paint along the shore, when this kayak went by. I'm not sure if you can see the dolphins in the picture? There were two dolphins that kept circling the kayak as he went down the shore line. It was really a fun thing to watch.
I like this sail boat that was tied up. The challenge with plein air painting is everything keeps changing so you have to paint small and fast. This sail boat kept spinning around, so it gave me a challenge to decide which way to make it go.

Zippo Lighter
The challenge: Paint this image using only burnt sienna, ultramarine blue and titanium white. That's it. No other colors. With that combo you can have it look pretty darn close to a full color painting by achieving a wide array of values and temperatures.

This week I saw the movie "The Black Swan" so my mind is now thinking ballet all day long. Twirling with memories of the movie. I think of ballerienas ,of Degas, of long days of hard practice, 0f artist trying to capture the experience.
I once read that you should surround yourself with the type of people you would like to be like, because it really does rub off. I think as artist we should expose ourselves to as much motivational and artistic stimulus as possible because I am sure some of it will rub off. When I speak of " artistic stimulus, I am not speaking of a cash influx by the government but to physically seeing as many great works of art, and successful artist and galleries as we can possible see.I think it gives me direction.
My environment changes my perception. It influences who I am,that is why I have choosen to be an artist. It is also the way that I personally motivate myself so I choose a rich environment filled with color ,change,eclectic friends and this week choreography of the ballet.
