Heirloom Tomato No. 3

I put out my tomato plants this week in my garden and it has rained everyday since. I think that is a good thing. I painted this in hopes that I would soon have a few fresh tomato's on the table. There is nothing like a fresh tomato out of your garden.

Wyoming Cows

This is a small study that I have done for a larger painting.

A "study" is the term used for a practice piece, a quick painting done to capture the essence of a subject or scene, or a painting done to try out a composition, rather than a painting done as a final piece. A study can include the entire composition or just a small section.

Here I am looking for how much I want to put in the larger painting. I think I will do at least one more study before I start the larger work. This is a 5x7 painting the larger painting will be 20x24.

I grew up in Cass county Michigan which produced more pigs then anywhere else at that time. My father raised pigs. Some had strips others were just pink when they were small. Calf, farm animal painting

Growing up on a farm, feeding the new baby calf's was one of my morning before school chores.

So before school each morning I would get up extra early and head out to the barn in the dark to feed the new calf's. They would be waiting for me hungry. I would dip my fingers in the warm milk and put it on their tongues to give them a taste.

They would push you down to get to their breakfast if you were not careful and holding their warm milk bucket firmly you might get a warm milk before school bath.

Santorini Blue,geraniums

The Greek Island of Santorini is my favorite. Of course I have only been to six of them and there are 226 that are inhabited.

I arrived by boat at Athinaos we rented a car and started up the mountain to the view of the Caldera. The road weaves around like a drunken snake with a thousand foot cliff at my side. My husband is afraid of high places so this was really a thrilling adventure of a drive, The hair pin turns, the one lane traffic, I highly recommend the bus.

The death defining drive is worth it when you see the sunset on Caldera. We spent a week on Santorini and a month on other Greek Islands. My memories are of the sunsets on the Caldera with a glass of wine and a bowl of "Kalamata" olives. When I think of Greece I think of the Greek blue and white homes and big blue pots of geraniums in front of them.
