Little Pink House Plien air painting
I titles this Plien Air Painting Little Pink House because of the odd shade that these building were painted. I think it was a cross between pink and lavender. It had rained all morning but by the time I got to the painting site it had stopped but the sky was overcast all day and the was thick. The great thing about a day like that for plien air painting is the shadow don't change. I did manage to get two painting done the first was a small detail work painting that was just 4x6. I like it and then painted a larger one. I rarely paint larger than 8x10 on site. My plien paintings are meant to be be studies that I can take back to the studio and paint large paintings from.

Roots No. 8
Roots No.8 is part of a large organic vegetable series that I started about 2 years ago. Many of the paintings in the series are in galleries right now. I had a series of 20 which were in a gallery in NY which closed this year and the unsold paintings have been returned so I will post one every now and then and I think it's time to add a few new ones to the series to replace sold one.

Queen Anns Lace
I was on my morning run when I notice a field full of Queen Ann's Lace. I knew I had to go back and take some pictures and my sketch pad and try to capture what I felt in the swaying heads of the delicate weed.I think they are prettier than most garden flowers and have loved them ever since I was a child.
Queen Anne's Lace is found all over the United States and goes by many different names: Wild Carrot, Birds Nest Weed, Devils Plague, Fools Parsley, and Lace Flower. You have probably seen it growing by the roadside.
There are many stories as to how Queen Anne's Lace got its name. Probably the most popular one is that when Queen Anne was making lace she pricked her finger and bleed. The red flower in the center signifies the drop of blood from Queen Anne's finger. All I am sure of is I

Two Olive Martini
I have done another oil painting in my Martini series. I did a few of these contemporary still life paintings then stopped and started doing landscapes. I do that jump back and forth from one subject to another. After I have painted one thing for awhile then I go back and do a few more in the series. It gives me time to freshen up, review , and think outside the box a little.

Painting at Millie's Studio
Yesterday we visited the home of Millie Gift Smith. I forgot my camera so I don't have any pictures to share, but this is a good reason to make a return visit to her home and enjoy this wonderful womans artwork.
Millie has the same last name as mine but is not a relative. I think I will adopt this charming lady who open her home and ground to us to plien air paint.
We were given a tour of Millie's studio which had us all drooling with it large window and wonderful painting area. Millie showed us how she sets up her camera and make instructional videos of her art work which she show on Utube.
Now having said all of this Millie is 90 and still going strong somewhat of a newly wed having married at 85. She made me realize it is never to late to learn. I had bought a video camera over a year ago to do a little Utube work and have found every excuse in the book not to start. Well if this lady can do her own videos, she is self taught and edits and films her own , I guess it's time for me to learn. I am giving my self to the end of the month for my first video. I don't think it will take me that long to make the video but it may take me that long to clean the studio.

Sail Boat at Low Tide
I have a small get away cottage on a lake in South Western Michigan that I have been at for a few days. Trying to do several maintance projects myself. I spent hours in the 98 degree tempurture yesterday removing a window that had screws in it that were older then me. They had so much crusted old paint in them I didn't think I would ever be able to get them out so I could remove the old window. The cottage is ancient and the windows were handmade held together with wooden pegs that over time had dry rotted. I teeter on a ladder. One leg on the windowsill the other on an decrepit old wooden ladder. I had rescued it from a burn pile because I wanted to turn it into a display easel. It was another project waiting for me. The ladder was handy and I didn't feel like searching in the hot barn for the nice new shiny one.Pulling, tugging, saying bad words, I finally won the battle of the window removal without breaking glass. A Kodak moment for sure. Now with the sweet taste of victory I went for a dip in the lake sweat poring over me being replaced by the refreshing lake water. Window safe on the grass, I would start the cut and paste to fix it tomorrow.
