Tint of Pink Tulips

Tint of Pink Tulips
Tint of Pink Tulips, painting by Delilah Smith
About This Painting: I was going through my photos for inspiration when I saw a picture of tulips I had taken last spring and decided to paint it.

I keep lots of photo references to work from sometimes I use part of the picture other times it is just a jumping of place for my mind to wander around and get ideas from.

Problems can arise when the artist relies too heavily on photographs for their sole inspiration because photos obviously lack the depth, value, color and saturation of reality. I like thick paint and mystery in my work so photos are something I use more for inspiration then to make an exact copies of.

So I cut and paste ideas from magazines, file and label, I have four egg crates of file folders for reference material, that someday maybe I might use.

If you need a photo reference here is a good site for free artist photos if you don't have the collection like I have or the room for one.
Of course the best thing is to paint from life but some days that just doesn't work out.
