About This Painting: Painting the Michigan landscape is never ending for me, all I have to do is take a walk down the road and I see something that intrigues me. I keep a  note book so I can go back and paint what moved me. Was is the sway of Queen Anns Lace along the road side,a forgotten barn,or maybe some cows in the shade of a tree. I often wonder how artist become blocked? For me it trip outside or gee whiz just to the refrigerator give me so many ideas.

About This Painting: I painted this old house "en Plein Air ",it is part of the Sleeping Bear Dunes Historical park located in Michigan.

My painting method is to put paint down and leaving it. I don't mush it in. I like thick bold strokes. To help me I use a toned canvas this keeps me from having to “kill the white” over the entire surface before I can make sound, relative judgments about color and value.

Watermelon for Sale

I painted this work at a plein air paint out in Dexter Michigan last week. It rained the first part of the week and was over cast making it very challenging. When there was a break in the clouds I finally got to paint a little but people kept parking right in front of my easel even though the rest of the parking are was empty Those are just some of the challenges of the Plein air painter.
