I don't live where there are mountains but I travel and take lots of photo reference's to paint with later. One tip I will over to you if you like to paint landscapes is to break it down into 4 or 5 basic shapes. This sound easier than it is because there is so much to look at. I always carry a sketch book and practice drawing shapes in it.
